Hanging a dartboard seems simple, but to really play well a correct installation is essential. Whether you play at home, in a pub or in a club, a properly mounted dartboard gives a better playing experience and prevents unnecessary wear. In this blog we explain step by step how to hang your dartboard perfectly.
1. Choose the right spot
Before you start drilling or screwing, choose a suitable location:
- Enough space: Make sure there is at least 2.5 metres of free space in front of the board.
- Good lighting: Avoid shadows on the board.
- Flat wall: A sturdy, flat wall prevents wobbling.
2. The official dimensions
For a standard dartboard the following dimensions apply:
- Height: The centre of the bullseye must hang 1.73 metres from the floor.
- Distance to the throw line (oche): 2.37 metres, measured from the front of the board to the throw line on the floor.
| Steeltip (sisal) | Softtip (electronic) | |
|---|---|---|
| Height to bullseye | 1.73 m | 1.73 m |
| Distance from board to throw line | 2.37 m | 2.44 m |
| Diagonal from bullseye to front of throw line | 2.93 m | 2.99 m |
Not sure the distance is right? Measure the diagonal from the bullseye to the front of the throw line and compare it with the values above.
3. Use a proper hanging system
A stable fixing is crucial. We recommend the Bull’s U Fixing Bracket:
- Easy installation
- Easy to rotate the board
- Suitable for all standard dartboards
With this system you mount the board firmly and can easily rotate it for even wear.
4. Mounting the dartboard
Follow these steps:
- Mount the wall part of the bracket at the right height (1.73 m to the bullseye).
- Attach the other part to the back of the dartboard.
- Slide the dartboard onto the bracket.
- Check that the board hangs level and that the 20 is at the top.
5. Mark the throw line
Use tape or a throw line sticker to mark the distance of 2.37 metres. For softtip dartboards this is 2.44 metres.
6. Protect your wall and light your board
A dartboard leaves small holes in the wall when darts miss. A surround catches that and makes your setup neater. Good lighting, such as the Bull's Lumo 2 Surround Light System, prevents shadows on the board and makes scoring easier. You will find more choice in the dartboard accessories and the dart lighting.
7. Check your setup
- The bullseye hangs 1.73 m from the floor.
- The throw line is at 2.37 m (steeltip) or 2.44 m (softtip).
- The 20 is at the top and the board hangs level.
- No shadow falls on the board.
- You have at least 2.5 m of free space in front of the board.
